Tybee Island Lighthouses
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Lighthouses in Tybee Island, Georgia.
Reputed to be one of the most historically intact lighthouses in America, the Tybee Island lighthouse site still has all of its original buildings, including both the lightkeeper's and assistant lightkeeper's houses. This lighthouse site and museum is located approximately 18 miles out of Savannah.
Originally built around 1837, the Cockspur Beacon survived years of environmental abuse before being destroyed by a hurricane and was rebuilt in 1857. The lighthouse shut down in 1909 and is now cared for by the National Park Service and is part of the Fort Pulaski National Park. It is open daily for visitors to view, but is only accessible by boat.
